Did you give your employees holiday bonuses?

Since we're in the holiday season, it's common for employees to expect compensation in addition to their regular pay. Did you give out any holiday bonuses? Why or why not? What do you think is the appropriate amount for an employee bonus? Please discuss in the comments.

  • Hi all,

In Latam it is common that ,according to each country law, you have a table of days of holidays related to the years of service of the employee (more years equals more days of holidays). It is also common, by law, to have to pay a Holiday Bonus to the employee, typically a % of the value of one working day for each day of holiday taken.

Additionally, we have the market practice, where it is common that companies grant more days of holiday than required by law and / or pay a higher Holiday Bonus than required by law.

Then, you can either pay a “Holiday Bonus” with more days of holidays and / or pay a higher Holiday Bonus than required by law.

I think that the spirit behind the “Holiday Bonus” is to “help” the employee and family to enjoy a nice holiday; not to pay the 100% of the cost of a Caribbean Cruise for a week for 4 people all inclusive + me (I need to "check" the service.....).

I think that a Holiday Bonus should be ,as a minimum, a 15% of the value of one working day for each day of holiday taken.

    Best Regards !
